Visual Connections

Visual Connections explores the unexpected relationships that appear for only a fraction of a second in everyday life. Inspired by the playful and observant approach of Matt Stuart, I look for moments when people, objects, signs, colours, shapes and gestures suddenly seem to belong together.

Most of these elements have no real connection at all. It is the viewpoint, timing and composition that bring them together. A passer-by may briefly interact with an advertisement, a gesture may echo a shape in the background, or two completely unrelated objects may suddenly create a humorous visual dialogue.

Finding these moments requires curiosity and anticipation. I often notice one interesting element first — a sign, colour, reflection, shadow or piece of architecture — and then wait to see what happens around it. Sometimes nothing happens. But occasionally, someone enters the frame and completes the photograph.

The resulting images can be humorous, surprising, subtle or slightly absurd. They encourage the viewer to look twice and discover relationships that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
