The bond between dogs and people

The Bond Between Dogs and People explores the special relationship that exists between dogs and the people who share their lives. It is a connection built on trust, companionship and countless everyday moments — often expressed through gestures so small that we barely notice them.

For us, these photographs are not simply portraits of a dog and its owner standing together. We are interested in the interaction between them. A glance, a gentle touch, walking side by side, a dog leaning against someone or simply resting quietly together can reveal far more about their relationship than a carefully arranged pose.

That is why we prefer to observe rather than direct. We may choose a location or suggest that people walk, play or spend some time with their dog, but from there we allow the interaction to develop naturally. By giving both dog and human space, genuine moments begin to appear.

Dogs communicate constantly through body language. The position of their ears, the direction of their gaze, the way they move towards someone or settle beside them can reveal trust and familiarity. At the same time, the smallest human gesture — a hand resting on a dog's back, a smile or an instinctive glance — can complete the story within the photograph.

The environment also plays an important role. A walk through the forest, an open landscape such as the heath, a familiar park or even a quiet moment at home can provide a natural setting in which that relationship becomes visible. Rather than treating the surroundings merely as a background, we like them to contribute to the atmosphere and story.

Working together allows us to approach these moments from different perspectives. While one of us concentrates on the photography, the other can observe what is happening around the dog and its owner, help create a relaxed situation or notice interactions that might otherwise pass unnoticed.

Ultimately, these photographs are about something deeper than dog photography. Dogs become part of our routines, families and memories. They accompany us through ordinary days and important moments, often asking for very little while giving us their complete attention and companionship.

The Bond Between Dogs and People is about making that invisible connection visible — capturing the trust, affection and quiet understanding that can exist between a dog and the person beside them.
